Who is Basketmouth?
Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth, one of Nigeria’s stand-up comedians was born on the 14th September 1978, the 2nd born from 6 children.
Bright Okpocha started comedy in 1990, although back then it wasn’t categorized as stand-up: it was called wording (“yabbing”).
In 1991 Bright discovered he had skills as a drummer and a rapper and in 1995 formed a group called Da Psychopaths. Unfortunately they broke up before releasing any music.

In 2000, 2face asked him to anchor a monthly show held at The Den in Ikeja, and it was during this period that Bright’s impact on the entertainment industry really got going.
It got bigger when he was called in by Tequila Events to perform alongside Julius Agwu on the Play Safe Tour.
In the same year he performed at a concert called Hanging Out With The Homeboys, and his showing wowed the crowd enormously.
He extended his act to the monthly Motherland concert hosted by Lagbaja, and then featured in the now most popular comedy show in Nigeria, Nite of a 1000 Laughs.
He later hit international concerts platforms and anchored gigs that included the likes of Joe, Boyz II Men, Sean Paul, Wyclef Jean, Kool & The Gang, Akon, Dru Hill, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Ciara, Chris Brown and many more. He’s also performed at various international shows in the UK, USA, Europe and South Africa.
In 2010 he became the first African comedian to host a comedy show – Lord of the Ribs – at the 02 Arena.
Basketmouth also hosts the biggest TV show in Nigeria today: the MTV Base Big Friday Show.
Last year Basketmouth was the headlining act at the Africa Laughs season one
