A1 Challenge have been relegated from the women’s division of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League after they lost 34-69 to UCU Lady Canons on Sunday at the YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya, Kampala.
The loss against UCU Lady Canons was the last nail on the coffin for A1 Challenge who had hoped to salvage maximum points against the university side in their final game of the regular season.
Tracy Namugosa was the standout player for UCU Lady Canons shooting 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Sandra Ayikoru Wangeshi kept A1 Challenge in the game with her 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists but her personal brilliance wasn’t enough to save the team.
A1 Challenge joins Nkumba Lady Marines as the other relegated team in the women’s division. Two teams were meant to go down from the 10 teams that started the campaign.
A1 Challenge finished the season with 24 points off three wins and 15 losses (18 games). They are second last (ninth) on the 10-team table just like Nabisunsa Girls who finished eighth.
Nabisunsa Girls have a better head to head against A1 Challenge – They won the first round tie 64-58 (6 points difference) before losing 53-55 (2 points difference) in the second round. The highschool side survive the axe.
Meanwhile, Nkumba Lady Marines who were relegated a while ago have 19 points from 18 games and they’re at the rock bottom of the table. They capped their season with a 59-46 loss against UCU Lady Canons.
The Tusker Lite National Basketball League returns this week with some teams set to complete their regular season matches.
