AGAIN! Mbabazi Halts Consultative Meetings

Presidential aspirant John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has postponed his consultative meetings until further notice, his Communications & Public Relations Campaign Director said yesterday.

shock1Josephine Mayanja-Nkangi said that the former prime minister will harmonise with The Democratic Alliance (TDA) which he joined last week and is in the race for coalition’s presidential flag bearer slot.
“The Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi is postponing his Consultation Tour until further notice due to the following reasons:The program of The Democratic Alliance (TDA) in which he is fully participating requires him to be present for all the processes being undertaken. As such, he is unable to go upcountry,” a statement released by Mayanja-Nkangi reads.
She said that Mbabazi will engage police in meaningful dialogue about use of live ammunitions and teargas on civilians.
Police and Electoral Commission have expressed dismay at Mbabazi holding campaigns under the pretext of consulting.
“Amama would like to engage the police in a meaningful discussion about their use of live ammunition and tear gas on peaceful, unarmed civilians who gather to receive his message with a view of wresting a firm promise from them to cease these actions,” the statement reads.
Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura warned former premier Amama Mbabazi to stop staging rallies under the guise of holding consultation meetings.
He said police would not let him hold his second phase of consultation meetings in Northern Uganda, which was supposed to commence early this week.
Electoral Commission Chairman Badru Kiggundu said last week that aspirants should distinguish consultative meetings from distribution of campaign materials, campaigns, holding rallies and mass meetings and canvassing/soliciting.
