Busoga Kingdom’s Ekigangu Project Ventures into Goats Scheme

In an endeavor to intensify its intervention about family cohesion, Ekigangu kya Busoga, an initiative by the Kyabazinga aimed at imparting cultural values and norms in the young generation has launched a goat rearing scheme as a pilot project.
While inaugurating the project at Ikonko village in Luuka Chiefdom,Owek.Dr. Joyce Abaliwano Mulebeke (Team Leader) who represented the initiative’s chairperson and speaker of Parliament Hon. Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga expressed the need to reinstate the values of a traditional ‘Kisoga’ home.
“We value the digital era that eases our way of doing things. However, as a Kingdom, the Kyabazinga wants his people to promote our values in general not forgetting food security at home that should be a top priority”, Dr.Abaliwano revealed adding that a Kisoga home consists of many things including domestic animals among others.
She appealed to management of the project to ensure that it lives to the members’ expectations.
Flanked by pioneer members of the initiative led by Yusuf Ibanda, Dr.Abaliwano argued that failure for the people of Busoga to organize their homes as expected will continue registering cases of gender based violence domestically.
On their part, Yusuf Ibanda noted that commissioning of the project will go a long way in improving the living standards of the locals within Luuka and the surrounding areas.
The project with over 20 hybrid goats is one of the pilot schemes that Ekigangu kya Busoga is initiating in the different Chiefdoms in Busoga.
