CAF Releases Shortlist Of Best African Players
The confederation of African football CAF has released the nominees of the African player of the year award.
The body’s technical football and media committee decided on the current shortlist.
The nominees include Barcelona’s Cameroonian defender Alex Song, Ghanaian and Marseille striker Andre Ayew, zambia’s Christopher Katongo, Rainford Kalaba and Stoppila Sunzu, Senegalese and Newcastle striker Demba Ba.
Didier Drogba, who won the UEFA champions league with English Premier League side has also been shortlisted alongside fellow Ivorians like Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi, Manchester city’s Yaya Toure all from ivory coast, Nigeria’s john Obi Mikel, Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, morocco’s Younes Belhanda, Egypt’s Mohamed Aboutreika Yannick N’Djeng from Cameroon and Tunisia’s Yousse Msakni
The list will be passed on to head coaches and technical directors from CAF member associations whose votes will decide the eventual winners before the continent announces the final three nominees at the end of this month.
Many soccer pundits expect Didier Drogba who has had a wonderful year that saw him win Europe’s most coveted trophy UEFA Champions League Medal with Chelsea before he joined Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.
The winners of this award will be disclosed at a ceremony on 20 December in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
