Defiance!!! Kayihura fails to appear in court
By Serestino Tusingwire
IGP, Gen Kale Kayihura has defied court orders by not showing up at Makindye court today.
Gen. Kale Kayihura and six other errant police officers were expected to appear before Makindye magistrate’s court to answer charges of police brutality against innocent civilians.
The court presided over by magistrate Richard Mafabi has however allowed the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mike Chibita to formally file an application for consideration, and postponed the hearing to 29th August, 2016, hoping the police chief will show up.
This is not the first time Gen Kayihura is defying orders.
Last month, he defied orders of the parliamentary committee on defense and internal affairs which wanted to grill him over the same issue.
More still, he defied the directives of DPP to produce Aaron Baguma before Buganda road court to answer murder charges.
The counsel that was ready to take Kayihura on was seen frustrated and asked the magistrate to issue arrest warrant to the IGP and his men.
Though the magistrate did not give them an immediate response, he took notes over the issue and they are waiting for his final decision.
Meanwhile, protestors in support of IGP vowed to lynch opposition leaders who were in the court room waiting to see the IGP being prosecuted.
The likes of Lukwago and other leaders were seen seeking refuge inside the court room hiding from the angry protestors.
