DPP Mike Chibita Wants Mumbere To Be Tried In Jinja
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Director of Public Prosecution Mike Chibita has requested the chief justice to shift Mumbere’s trial case from Kasese to Jinja to avoid disturbances.
In a statement directed to Chief Justice Chambers in Kampala, the DPP asked the Chief Justice to express his powers under section 7 of magistrates Act to shift the trial of accused person from Kasese magistrate’s court to Jinja magistrate’s court because of a number of reasons.
According to Chibita, this is because due to disturbances in Kasese, the Chief Magistrate’s court in Kasese is not guaranteed to be operational and the suspects are already within the jurisdictions of Jinja magistrate’s court.
Meanwhile, the Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere on Tuesday afternoon appeared before Jinja magistrates court which charged him with murder and remanded him to Luzira Maximum prison until 13th December, 2016.
