The selfie craze that has caused excitement around the world has not spared Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni.
On Monday, there was excitement in the northern district of Arua when the Ugandan president became the latest world leader to show the ease with which he is able to adapt to global technological trends when he got hold of a trendy smartphone and took his first ever selfie.
This was during celebrations to mark 100 years of the West Nile region at Boma grounds, Arua Municipality, north of the country.

According to Sarah Kagingo, the Special Presidential Assistant on Communications, the new generation media and Ugandan online community were very excited.
Wikipedia describes a selfie as a self protrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera phone.
Initially popular with young people, selfies have gained wider popularity.
President Museveni now joins a host of world leaders who have taken selfies of themselves.

The most prominent of these was when US President Barack Obama together with British Premier David Cameron and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt took a selfie of themselves during the funeral of South Africa’s fallen anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Madela last December.
In November 2013, the word “selfie” was announced as being the “word of the year” by the Oxford English Dictionary, which gave the word itself an Australian origin.
