Golden Jubilee Medal Useless – Matembe

Former Ethics and Integrity Minister Miria Matembe has slammed the Golden Jubilee medal saying it is too useless for her and instead requests for a retirement package.

“This is nonsense, bluffing, I don’t want it, it doesn’t make any meaning to me,” the disgruntled Matembe said.

The Speaker of Parliament in conjunction with the Presidential Awards Committee are organizing Golden Jubilee Awards Ceremony for Members of Parliament who have served in the different legislatures since independence.

The ceremony is due to take place on September 26, 2016

Matembe who also served as Mbarara municipality woman MP says she has been recognized by Ugandans for work done and has been awarded several medals internationally and so doesn’t need this Golden Jubilee medal.

“Here I am, I worked for this country for 27 years I have no retirement package, I have nothing, I have been robbed, now you call my name and you are giving me a medal!” She exclaimed before adding that “let them give me my retirement package.”

Other members on the list of current and former legislators to be awarded the golden Jubilee medal later this month are Dr Kizza Besigye and Winnie Byanyima.

Ms Byanyima, is the former Mbarara Municipality MP while Dr Besigye was both a member of the National Resistance Council (NRC) and the Constituent Assembly (CA) which preceded the current House.
