Starting from October 2016, residents around Kampala city will start enjoying free Wireless Internet fully paid by Government.

The Revelation was made yesterday at Parliament by the James Saaka, the Executive Director of National Information Technology Authority (NITA) while meeting legislators on the ICT Committee.

This was after Bunya East MP, Waila Majegere Kyewalabye from Mayuge district complained of the endless passwords on wireless hotspots in Uganda, yet this isn’t the case in Rwanda.

Majegere noted: “I was in Kigali-Rwanda and these people keep on notifying you that there is free wireless for you to use, but in Uganda everywhere there is password in Uganda.”

Saaka in his response assured MPs that the Authority is in the final stages and soon Ugandans will start enjoying free Wi-Fi.

According to Saaka the fee Wi-Fi will be available as soon as public servants leave their offices from 6Pm and will run until 6Am.

This will be largely concentrated in areas where people are many.
