“I Should Have Scored Two”-Van Persie
Former Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie will not allow his former employers to recover soon from their loss against his current club Manchester United.
This is after he revealed he should have netted a second.
Robin Van Persie left Arsenal at the end of the transfer window in September to join bitter rivals Manchester United, a move that upset many Arsenal fans.
Speaking to the media after Saturday’s game Van Persie revealed he how he should have walked away with a double but for the team’s failure to utilize the chances they created.
“We were sloppy with our chances,” Van Persie said. I should have scored two goals but I’m happy with one.” He added
He however had some respect for his former club choosing not to celebrate his second minute strike on what he called a ‘special day’.
“I think it speaks for itself. I played there eight years and had a fantastic time there. I have respect for the fans, the players, the manager and the whole club.”
Van Persie re-echoed Manchester United Boss Alex Ferguson’s remarks that United was supposed to punish the gunners.
“I can’t believe the chances we missed,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “It’s unbelievable. The chances we missed, we really should have put it to bed a long time ago. He added.
Manchester United are now leaders of the English Premier League with 24 points while Arsenal are in a distant sixth with 15 points
