The Queen of the Rwenzururu Kingdom, Agnes Ithungu, has paid a courtesy call to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, on Friday, 13 November, 2015 in her chambers at Parliament.
Kadaga expressed delight in meeting the Queen and applauded the Kingdom for the initiatives they have taken to improve livelihoods of the people.
“I have seen the efforts of the Kingdom in improving the livelihoods of the community. The last time I visited the Rwenzururu region, I saw various developmental projects,” the Speaker noted.
The Woman MP for Kasese district, Hon. Winifred Kiiza said the meeting was meant to start a relationship between the Kingdom of Rwenzururu and the Speaker of Parliament.
The Speaker donated a printer and photocopier to the office of the Queen of Rwenzururu to help in the developmental initiatives of the kingdom.
In her remarks, Queen Agnes Ithungu expressed her gratitude towards the Speaker’s generosity and support. “We appreciate your efforts as a woman leader, and in your various development projects in the country. You are a role model to us,” the Queen said.
She also congratulated the Speaker upon returning unopposed as the Second National Vice Chairperson of NRM and for winning the party nominations for Woman MP, Kamuli District ahead of the national elections in 2016.
The Queen revealed that the Kingdom had taken up various developmental projects which include: poverty alleviation initiatives, youth development programmes, health and economic improvement. “Most notably, the Queen holds a campfire for the youth and that is meant to mentor them culturally and give them life skills,” the Nyabaghole said.
The Speaker pledged to participate in the youth campfire and provide career guidance to the participants.
