Kadaga Roots For Kamuli Sugar Factory

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has urged residents of Kamuli District to support the Kamuli Sugar factory.

While officiating at a book donation ceremony by Kamuli Sugar Limited Factory to primary school pupils in Kamuli, the Speaker said that the factory which was commissioned in January 2015, has supported farmers and, the community as a whole through its various corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“Kamuli Sugar Limited took responsibility and has taken care of the community, so we ought to defend it because it is a big source of revenue,” Kadaga said

The Speaker added that for a long time Kamuli has generated revenue was known for civil servants and farmers and, therefore there is need to do whatever it takes to support the small industries that are springing up.

Patel Kashyap, a Director at Kamuli Sugar Limited Factory said that it was not the first time the Factory was giving out books and pledged to continue supporting the community in various ways.

Kadaga presided over the donation of books by Kamuli Sugar Factory to 42 primary schools in Kitayunjwa, Balawoli and Laguna sub counties. 6700 pupils will benefit from the donation.

“Use these books appropriately, study well, focus and become successful like me in future. I also urge parents to allow children time to do revision,” Kadaga said.

In a separate event, Kadaga officiated at a friendly netball game between Members of Parliament and the Kamuli Netball team as part of the Parliamentary initiative of reaching out to the people.

The team, which was captained by the Leader of Opposition, Hon. Winnie Kiiza, beat the Kamuli Netball Team 39 – 37.

“We are happy to be here to mingle and have fun with the locals as a gesture of bringing Parliament to the people. We are doing this because we want to break the barriers and common stereotypes that MPs are out of reach,” Kiiza said.

After the game, the Speaker gave away 7 wheelchairs to PWDs from Kamuli municipality as part of her campaign promises.
