Kayihura Promotes World Junior Athletics Gold Medalist Cheptegei to Assistant Inspector of Police

Joshua Cheptegei
Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police has promoted Joshua Cheptegei, the World Junior Athletics champion from the rank of corporal to an Assistant Inspector of Police. Cheptegei clinched Gold for Uganda at the World Junior championships in Eugene America last month.

The Police runner clocked 28 minutes 32.86 seconds to beat two Kenyans and an Eritrean runner to win the 10000m race. According to Kayihura, he doesn’t see the reason why he can’t promote the junior cop for a job well done so as to attract more talent to the force.

He says Cheptegai will earn five million shillings each month on top of getting full government sponsorship to study at Bugema University.
Kale also says they will recognize the efforts of other cops such as Stella Chesang, Phillip Kipyeko and Abdallah Kibet Mande who excelled in the same world junior championship. Kayihura toured schools in Western Uganda last week with the athletes to inspire students to joint sports activities. Poly Namaye, the assistant police spokesperson says the force is in need of hundreds of talented youths for deployment in various departments such as construction.
Cheptegai is not the only officer to skip several ranks for his exceptional performance. Stephen Kiprotich was also promoted from prison warder to the rank of Assistant Superintendentof Uganda Prisons by Dr John Byabashaijja, the Commissioner General of Uganda prisons after his victory at the London Olympic marathon in 2012.
He was promoted to full Superintendent early this year after he won Gold in the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Moscow last year.
Afande Tear Gas, well done!! Uganda has always been known for HIV/AIDS, wars, Idi Amin, stealing donors’ funds and corruption. These runners deserve kito kidogo. They worked hard for it and are getting clean money and gifts unlike some who are getting free money by stealing tax payers’ money and even stealing from the dead without mercy. Whoever does not agree with these gifts, can go hang. After all this is just a token compared to some countries which offer real gifts.
Thank you Afande Kayihura for promoting our athlete as away of motivating other potentials. However, the rank offered to Cheptegei (AIP from Corporal) seem not match his effort. May you copy an example from Dr. Bashaija of Prisons service who promoted kiprotich from warder to ASP and later to SP upon his two successive achievements in world athletics.
