KENYA DECIDES: Mudavadi Concedes, Calls For Peace

Just hours before the final announcement of results in Kenya’s Presidential election, Musalia Mudavadi, one of the eight candidates has conceded defeat.
Mudavadi of Amani coalition announced in a press briefing from his home in Kileleshaa in Nairobi this morning that the provisional results at hand clearly show that the race has been zeroed to only two candidates – Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee coalition and Raila Odinga, the CORD candidate.

He says he has already lost hope of any victory and therefore it is important for him to accept the outcome of the election and continue with his normal life.
Mudavadi says at the moment the most important thing is peace and restraint. He said he has already talked to the two front runners, Kenyatta and Odinga, and warned them against doing anything that would jeopardize the current peace prevailing across Kenya.
He observed that as candidates, they could have had misgivings about the handling of the election, but that peace was paramount above everything.

Mudavadi said he pleaded with them to respect the results. He said he also assured them that the winner of the election will have full support and backing from him and his supporters.

At noon on Friday, the results released by the election body, IEBC, put Mudavadi in 3rd position with 357, 792 votes against Uhuru Kenyatta, who is leading with 4, 835, 482 representing 49.5%. Odinga has 4, 316, 005 votes representing 44.2%. The results are from the 223 of the 291 constituencies.

The official results are expected to be released by IEBC by end of today.
