Lightning Kills One In Sembabule

A child has been struck and killed by lightning and two others injured in Lwebitakuli Sub County, Ssembabule district.

The deceased has been identified as Shadrack Ebbo, while the injured children that are hospitalized include Joshua Muwanguzi and Maria Keziyah.

The incident occurred on Monday evening during a heavy rain downpour.

The deceased’s mother Margret Nantongo was away at the time of the incident. Nantongo says she had gone to attend a burial in Kingo village, Lwengo district when she was informed of the death of her son.

Jude Kiganda, a resident, says they rushed to the scene of the lightning strike after the children raised an alarm. However, Ebbo had been struck dead on the spot.

Kiganda says the other two children could have survived the lightning strike because they were inside a house at the time.

A medical worker at BAMU Hospital where the children were rushed for treatment confirms to Uganda Radio Network that they are out of danger. They are reportedly responding well to treatment.
