Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni has summoned all National Resistance Movement (NRM) aspirants eyeing the Luweero District woman MP seat to persuade them to step down for Rebecca Nalwanga, the official party candidate.

Nalwanga is facing competition from other NRM aspirants including Lillian Nakate, Elizabeth Lugudde, Ritah Mugalu, and Patricia Magala who are threatening to contest as independents.

They accuse the party secretariat of hand picking Nalwanga to contest in the district woman MP by-election yet she is unpopular. On Tuesday, more 2000 NRM members in the district convened at Diocese Pastoral Center to resolve the stalemate.

During the meeting, President Yoweri Museveni thanked the aspirants for showing interest to contest on the NRM ticket. He however, said it was impossible to conduct primary elections to select a candidate because of the nominations, which are scheduled for Monday May 5th.

Museveni asked the aspirants to be patient until the party primaries are conducted in 2015 and invited them for dialogue at state house Entebbe this evening.

Abdul Nadduli, the Central Region NRM Chairperson says the aspirants agreed to pull out during a meeting with Richard Tadwonga, the Minister for general duties once they are deployed to serve elsewhere.

He also noted that since the aspirants had already spent money in informal campaigns he believes President Yoweri Museveni will ensureĀ  they are compensated as they pullout.

  1. Its now become a fashion to contest against the party candidate and set conditions for stepping down! M7 should stop treating such people with kid gloves and take the bull by the horn.

  2. Museveni is like the Satan and all of its cohorts who wish to conquer God’s Kingdom that is unconquerable.Museveni wants all of Uganda to be his,for his wife, son and relatives forgetting that the country Uganda belongs to God and that has given it to Ugandans. forever Museveni is working for a nasty grave that will be seen by fear people if not non

  3. Again, this is the fundamental problem with Ugandan politics and actors. Most are in it for the money or jobs…competing aspirants are not basing on principled stands but rather what do i get out of this. Now they will withdraw if they are deployed elsewhere and informal expenses reimbursed…such is the tragedy of NRM and ofcourse as M7 says there is enough room in the house for everyone but its everybody else who will be paying for your residency…you lie to me once, shame upon you, you lie to me twice, shame upon me.

  4. Public Theft in Uganda started in 1986 and it is still expanding because Museveni loves talking nicely condemning it while compromising with the thieves let wait to see how he cracks down all these thieves.
