“Today, any assessment would show that Hon Hope Mwesigye and Hon Amama Mbabazi are the ones who regret most the removal of presidential term limits,” Prof Barya said

He added; “In 2005, Parliament voted to remove presidential term limits from the constitution, giving Museveni a lifeline to continue as president. Ugandans will recall that Hon Hope Mwesigye with the backing of the super Minister Hon Amama Mbabazi made sure that the presidential term limits were removed from our constitution.”

Prof Baryamureba went ahead to argue that most of those who worked hard to have presidential term limits removed to give Museveni a chance at life Presidency are the same people saying that he must go, he must handover power, he must not run again yet he qualifies.

And that the removal of presidential term limits to give Museveni unlimited terms in power was first officially launched in March 2003, during a Movement National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi before finally removing constitutional term limit clause from the constitution in2005.

Likes of Evelyn Anite cautioned

“In 2015, we have the likes of Hon Evelyn Anite with the NRM-O sole candidate proposal regardless of whether it promotes internal democracy or weakens NRM-O or both. I hope by 2020 she won’t have regretted her actions,” Prof Barya said.

Prof Barya made the remarks in a fine articulated article titled; “removal of presidential term limits paved way for a life presidency in Uganda” posted on his Facebook account today morning.
