Sevo Cup Tournament kicked off on Friday afternoon at the Lugogo-based Philip Omondi Stadium following the launch the previous day.

The opening soccer match was between Owino Market FC and that of Lufula. It ended in a 1-1 draw.

The tournament will be running for a whole month at the same stadium.

Susan Kushaba, who is the vision bearer behind Sevo cup tournament, says they are expecting the President to grace the grand finale someday towards the end of September.

The tournament will see the 18 markets in Kampala battle for a bus in the men’s soccer tournament while the women will win a minibus after a netball tournament.

The tournament was named Sevo Cup to reflect markets vendors’ appreciation of President Museveni’s efforts to ensure the control and management of all public markets in Kampala returns to KCCA.

This brought to an end the exploitation and brutalization of poor vendors by the agents of profit-seeking tenderers.
