MTN cuts Mobile Money Rates

MTN Uganda has announced a reduction in sending rates for the mobile money service between clients for tiered amounts between sh500 and sh45, 000.

The promotion is part of MTN’s festive season offers.

Charges for sending between Shs500 and Shs2, 500 have been reduced by 64% from Shs500 to Shs180, charges for sending between Shs2501 and Shs5000 have also been reduced from Shs500 to Sh350.

For sending between Shs5001 and Shs15000, charges have been reduced from Shs1000 to Shs600, between Shs15001 and Shs30,000; charges have been reduced from sh1000 to Shs800 while charges for sending between Shs30001 and Shs45000 have been cut by shs100 to Shs1000 from Shs1100.

“The offer is in line with MTN’s commitment to driving financial inclusion in Uganda while delivering easier and more affordable services to customers,” Phrase Lubega, MTN’s general manager for financial services said in a statement.

“To be able to accelerate the financial inclusion that mobile money is at the forefront of supporting, affordability is key,” Wim Vanhelleputte, the company’s chief executive added.
