North Kigezi Diocese to have new Bishop in 4 months

The 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese is to be consecrated and enthroned on28th Feb 2023, at St Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasaano in Rukungiri District.
North Kigezi Diocese is under a caretaker Bishop Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume-Tusingwire following the untimely demise of Bishop Benon Magezi the 5th Bishop of North Kigezi died on 15 June 2021 at the Mulago National Specialized Hospital at the age of 60, from the consequences of an infection with COVID having been consecrated and enthroned as Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese on January 8th, 2017 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasaano, Rukungiri.
On Saturday during a special Synod sitting for north Kigezi diocese at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano The caretaker Bishop Rt Rev Patrick Tugume Tusingwiire unveiled the Provincial roadmap during an emergency sitting purposely called to apply the Constitutional amendments recommended by the recently concluded Church of Uganda Provincial Assembly meeting.
In the road map the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi diocese should be installed and consecrated by 28th Feb 2023,
Bishop Tusingwire also told the Synod members that the Diocese should have approved the Constitution By 31st Oct 2022 as the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee should have approved the Diocesan Constitution By 10th Nov 2022, By 23rd November 2022, the Diocesan Nomination Committee should have sent the names of the nominated Candidates to the Province for the House of Bishops and By 1st Dec 2022, the House of Bishops should have verified the candidates and nominated the incoming Bishop.
The 20th Synod sitting commenced with a Holy Communion service officiated by Rev. Can. Eric Baingana; the Dean of the Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinaysano and the preacher of the day was Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusingwire;
In his sermon, Bishop Patrick anchored his message on Matthew 9:25; the Diocesan theme 2022 and reminded the congregation about God’s daily call to serve, for the “harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”
In his address to the Synod, Bishop Patrick congratulated the Synod members upon being trusted and delegated to the meeting which is a big responsibility, and encouraged them to be good delegates and always report back to those that send them.
He implored them to be good representatives, proudly defend their Diocese and be the light in the dark.
He applauded the construction works going on across the Diocese for Church buildings and especially very nice and standard residences for the Priests.
The caretaker Bishop raised awareness about the Ebola epidemic and the COVID19 and encouraged the delegates to take care and adhere to the SOPs.
The bishop commended the work of the partners and missionaries from the Anglican Diocese of Armidale, Australia who have supported North Kigezi Diocese in many ways including Canon Ndimbirwe Bible College (CNBC)
He informed the 20th Synod about the ongoing process of registering CNBC with the National Council for Higher Education that will soon enable it become a Certified Institution offering authenticated and nationally approved Certificate and Diploma courses.
Bishop Patrick informed the Synod of the exciting partnership between North Kigezi Diocese and Kabale University, through which Kabale University will take over the phased out Rukungiri Primary Teachers’ College and the former Bishop Stuart Rukungiri Campus.
The bishop also informed members of the Synod that Kahoko Mitooma COU and Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi COU had been upgraded to Parish level, after going through a successful verification process.
