Ofwono Defends M7 Cash Donations

Uganda Media Centre Executive Director and government Spokesman Ofwono Opondo has hit out at those criticizing President Museveni’s cash donations.
President Yoweri Museveni has in the recent weeks and months been touring former liberation struggle zones in a drive against poverty. These tours have seen him splash money on youth groups and veterans.
The most prominent donation being the Shs250m he donated at the handover ceremony of a new Executive of the Busoga Youth Forum at Kaliro District Headquarters three months ago. The president who is the patron of the youth group delivered the money in a sack sparking a row.

This action and similar ones have caused unease in the country with many questioning why the president chooses to donate money in the method a time when there are reports of unpaid salaries for civil servants.

Through his twitter account @ofwonoopondo, Uganda Media Centre boss Opondo defended the president saying no one would refuse the donation.
“Criticisms against President Museveni over cash donation unjustified: who wouldn’t accept?” Ofwono tweeted.

Even though there was unease among members of the public with the president’s donations considering the plight of civil servants like teachers and police men and women whose salaries had been delayed, last week President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered the Minister for Education Jessica Alupo to find a 20% salary increment for teachers in the next two weeks.
