Over 1500 people Receive Free Treatment in Rukiga

Over 1500 people have been diagnosed and treated at health camp in Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga District.

The week long health camp was sponsored and   organized by Dr Slyvia Arinaitwe the Deputy Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation and her friends and coordinated with local leaders.

The medical camp, which commenced on Tuesday and concluded on Friday at Kamwezi Health Center IV, aimed to address the growing health challenges in the area.

Cedric Mugabe the Coordinator of the medical Camps   says that they received overwhelming numbers where over 1500 patients suffering from various ailments were treated as well given medication.

He says that  Eyes problems they worked on 226 patients , Gynecology cases 114 where 6 surgeries where non communicable diseases they got 800 patients at the five day medical camp saying that even in the last camp that was held at Mparo Health  Center IV about three weeks ago they managed to get about 700 cases of non communicable diseases.

“Out of 1136 patients, 800 are grappling with non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and hypertension among others”. Said Mugabe. .

Gilbert Ahumuza, The Rukiga District Acting Health Officer, expressed gratitude to Dr. Sylvia Arinaitwe   for organizing the health camp.

He said that they are facing various challenges at the health center like the maternity ward accommodates only six mothers they are lacking space

Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere, the LC5 Chairperson for Rukiga District, Thanked Dr Arinaitwe for remembering the people back home and providing such services but he requested her to extend similar initiatives to other sub-counties such as Kashambya and Bukinda, which were not covered during the two health camps at Mparo Health Center IV and Kamwezi Health Center IV in Mparo Town Council and Kamwezi Sub-County, respectively.

He also expressed his concern regarding the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases, attributing it to climatic changes and unhealthy eating behaviors.

Zadock Kamusiime, the Rukiga District Deputy Resident Commissioner, expressed distress over the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, particularly among older individuals. He urged them to prioritize regular medical checkups, emphasizing that old age is not a disease, and using it as an excuse is unwarranted.

Dr Arinaitwe who is the daughter of the soil as she hails from Kamwezi Sub County   says that she says that this is the medical camp that she has organized since the year begun as the last one was held at Mparo Health Center IV that mainly focused on orthopedic challenges but after getting various requests she decided to have another medical camp in Kamwezi that focused on all ailments.

She urged the general public to prioritize regular medical checkups, especially for non-communicable diseases, emphasizing that health is wealth.

Dr Arinatwe said that she is to donate 100 mattresses to Kamwezi health center IV

“  while I was in Mparo health center  I met some people  who had goiter one being a 91 years old man when I consulted  the health workers  that told me as long  they are not cancerous  they can  be operated on  but me  at first I got scared of the 91 years old man   but was assured that he will be ok they were operated on now they are ok  “. Said Dr Arinaitwe.
