Plot to Assassinate DPP Chibita Leaks

Security organs in the country have busted a deadly plot that was hatched to assassinate the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Justice Mike Chibita.
According to documents seen by Red Pepper, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants are behind this planned murder.
“The terrorists want the DPP eliminated because he has been instrumental in the ongoing cases involving ADF as well as the July 2010 twin bombing suspects in Kampala,” a highly placed security source told us.
According to a secret dossier intercepted by security, Chibita was lined up for murder as early as 2013 and his pursuers intensified his hunt when he became DPP.
And in the course of investigations, security have linked Ibrahim Kayongo, a former ADF combatant now serving 10 years in Luzira Prison for aggravated robbery, to the plot.
Upon interrogation, Kayongo indeed confessed knowledge of the Chibita murder plot.
He revealed to detectives that a group of this murder’s key plotters even visited him in jail and briefed him about it.
He also intimated that the same plotters were the same people behind the death of slain deputy DPP Joan Kagezi who was shot dead in front of her children at Kiwatule on March 30, 2015.
“Their aim is to snuff out whoever is involved in the trial of ADF terrorists,’ a source quoted Kayongo to have said.
It should be noted that ever since Kagezi’s murder, Justice Chibita has stepped up efforts to have the ADF terrorists tried.
And while eulogizing his late colleague Kagezi, Chibita vowed to handle the bombing suspects’ trail to its logical conclusion as a way to according justice to Kagezi and Ugandans in general.
“We are going to continue doing our work that was entrusted to us. If the killers of Joan thought that they were sowing seeds of fear, they have succeeded in galvanizing the army of the legal profession,” he said.
Investigations into the Chibita murder plot are in high gear and are being conducted vide General Enquiry File, GEF: 409/2015.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga could not be reached for comment as our persistent calls to him went unanswered, while his deputy, Polly Namaye, said she was busy in Kabale organizing for Crime Preventers’ pass-out ceremony when reached.
