In a press statement, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango refuted the claims saying police can’t arrest “possible witnesses who are set to testify in court.”

“Lawyers of Hon. Amama Mbabazi alleged in the Supreme Court while submitting their petition that Uganda Police arrested their witnesses totaling to 13 and are currently detained at SIU KIreka,” the statement reads in parts.

“We want to state that we have never arrested any of their witnesses and we do not intend to do so in the near future. No Police officer has stepped foot in Hon. Amama’s residence apart from those who are in his security details. The said names do not appear anywhere in our lockup registers.”

The Go Forward camp on Monday said police intercepted s 14 witnesses travelling to meet Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi.
