PRICE OF GRAFT! Mayuge H/Teacher Turned Thief Embezzles Sh176m, Jailed, Gets 10-Year Ban!
The Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Ramadhan Ngobi, 58, the Head Teacher of Nakazigo Primary School in Mayuge District, to 18 months in Luzira prison and barred him from occupying any public office for 10 years for embezzling UGX 176M and abuse of office.
Court presided over by His Worship Christopher Opit, convicted Ngobi on both counts of embezzlement and abuse of office, following successful prosecution by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
According to prosecution, Ngobi withdrew UGX176M from the school’s Bank Account which was meant for construction of two class room blocks and a five-stance latrine at the school. He instead put the funds to personal use thus causing financial loss of UGX176M to the school.
Ngobi was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the offence of embezzlement and 6 months for the offence of abuse of office. Both sentences to run concurrently.
He was also barred from occupying any public office for a period of 10 years, and ordered to refund UGX176m which he embezzled and deposit it to the IG’s Asset Recovery Bank Account held in Bank of Uganda.
The IG urges all public officers to adhere to ethical standards while holding public offices.
