State House Opens Up on Amama Appointment as New BoU Governor

Kampala – The netizens have been sent into a frenzy after news circulated on social media indicating the appointment of Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi as new Governor of Bank of Uganda.

State House through Faruk Kirunda the Deputy Press Secretary to the President of the Republic of Uganda, has spoken out on reports of former presidential candidate’s appointment.

Kirunda said that President Museveni was yet to appoint a new Bank of Uganda governor.

“It is not true that H.E the President has appointed a new Governor, BOU,” said Kirunda on Saturday, July 30.

The BoU governor position fell vacant in January 2022 after the death of Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who had held the position for many years.

For six months now, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has not appointed any replacement for the veteran economist.

Now, social media rumors claimed that Mbabazi has been appointed the new governor.

“In case such an appointment is made, the public will be informed through official channels.”

In February 2022, a senior political analyst told Ugandans not to be surprised if Amama Mbabazi replaces Museveni as president soon.
