TIME FOR KARMA? Mixed reactions as Govt moves to foot Mp Nambooze’s medical bills

The government of Uganda has finalized plans to airlift the opposition woman member of parliament for Mukono Municipality Betty Nambooze Bakireke to the US for further medical treatment.

Nambooze is currently admitted at Rubaga hospital after being involved in a domestic accident.

The legislator says she slid and fell on the stairs while moving to her bedroom and sustained serious injuries.

She is nursing seven stitches in the face, swollen chest and swollen arms.

The MP has since been chasing for the clearance from the medical board to be able to fly to the US for specialized treatment.

The Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, confirmed that Nambooze will be flown to the USA for specialized treatment.

“We have finalized arrangements to airlift her to the US for treatment. She is our member, entitled (to special medical treatment) and she is sick,” Mwesigye told the media.

However, Ugandans have expressed mixed reactions about her airlifting to the US. Will NUP radical extremists protest against the government’s decision to take Nambooze to the United States for treatment the way they demonstrated against the late Jacob Oulanyah’s treatment in Seattle US?

“Even Nambooze herself came out and said Oulanyah had saved enough money to take him abroad for treatment and so, the government had no need to spend Money on him. Now, can she come out and just say no to the government money to be used on her since she must have saved enough too,” Celia Stella Alina.

And for Monday Poneia: “No, those hooligans should be ignored, they have no direction, when it favors them they won’t protest, if they can protest for killers that they should be set free, because they are on their side!!!!”

According to Odago Francis Since Nambooze is from Buganda he doesn’t expect a demonstration.

“I don’t know if I am the only person who thinks that Government money is actually our money – and I don’t see any issues Gov’t spending our own money to treat one of us…as in wananchi,” opines Jude Romeo Nsereko.

According to Janat Najembe, the government set the precedent, so “it’s incumbent on them to do the same for other leaders.”
