The defending champion David Oringa and Henry Muyanja have stormed the pre- quarter finals of the on-going Castle Lite Uganda Open Tennis Championships at the Kampala Club Courts.
Oringa saw off Rwanda’s Justin Ntanerenya 6-1, 6-0 in a game that lasted 30 minutes, while Muyanja beat Eric Isingoma 6-0, 6-2.
In the earlier games played in the first round which were completed today after rain interrupted play on Monday, seed 8 Moses Otiti had to fight hard to beat Nakasero Primary School student Frank Tayebwa 7-6, 6-2, Rwanda’s Eric Kayiranga beat Charles Ssenyange 6-4, 6-3.
Former national champion who just returned from the US Duncan Mugabe also humbled Jinja’s Ronnie Ssenyange 6-1, 6-1 in a one sided encounter.
The tournament’s seed 2 Jean Claude Gasigwa, Edward Odockcen and Charle Okurut also made it to the second round of the tournament.
In the women’s category, Zimbabwe’s Fadzai Nawisire beat Mary Ayato 6-1, 6-0, while another foreign player Megdne Ngabire from Rwanda saw off Sarah Nabanja 6-1, 6-0.
The event supported by main sponsors Nile Breweries Limited (UBL) through their Castle Lite brand and Housing Finance Bank will climax on Saturday with top players getting cash prizes.
