KAMPALA — The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has scooped the Best Sector Exhibitor Award at the 32nd Uganda International Trade Fair, earning recognition for its innovations, services and contribution to Uganda’s economic transformation.
The award comes as the Trade Fair, held under the theme “Formalising Trade to Secure Uganda’s Economic Future,” brings together businesses, government agencies and other institutions to showcase products, services and innovations contributing to the country’s economy.
NWSC’s exhibition stood out for transforming its stall into an interactive platform where visitors could learn about the Corporation’s efforts to improve water quality, expand sewerage services and extend access to safe water, particularly for low-income communities.
One of the major attractions was NWSC’s Urban Pro-Poor initiative, through which residents in informal settlements can access clean and safe water at Shs25 per 20-litre jerrycan.

The initiative forms part of the Corporation’s efforts to make essential water services more affordable and accessible to vulnerable communities.
The NWSC showcase also attracted the attention of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister Sanjay Tanna, who visited the Corporation’s stall during the official opening of the Trade Fair.
Tanna, who was received by NWSC Senior Manager for Public Relations Vivien Newumbe, commended the Corporation for its contribution to national development and pointed to the positive recognition its work has received from President Yoweri Museveni.
The Minister said Uganda had made significant progress in expanding access to essential services, including safe water, compared to previous years when many communities struggled to access reliable services.
Addressing exhibitors, Tanna said Uganda is targeting tenfold economic growth under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), with agro-processing, tourism, mining, and science, technology and innovation identified as key growth drivers under the ATMS strategy.

He also emphasised the importance of value addition, peace, the rule of law and a stable financial sector as critical foundations for sustainable economic transformation.
For NWSC, the Trade Fair award represents more than recognition for an impressive exhibition.
The Corporation says access to water and sanitation remains a critical economic issue, arguing that communities, businesses and the wider economy cannot achieve sustained growth without reliable water and sanitation services.
The Best Sector Exhibitor Award therefore adds to NWSC’s efforts to position water and sanitation as key drivers of Uganda’s economic development, productivity and social inclusion.
