Dr. Mukiza has issued a directive to all district representatives, urging them to finalize the remaining mapping within one week to ensure they meet the deadline.

In the meantime, Dr. Mukiza confirmed that all tablets required for the census have arrived in the country and training for enumerators is underway.

The Bureau commenced a nine-day training of national trainers from all districts of Uganda and cities ahead of the May census.

In the training, each district/city has been represented by three people, including District Census Officers, their assistants, and ICT experts. These have been joined by UBOS staff, and others from participating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

Today marks the initiation of a pivotal phase in Uganda’s preparations for Census 2024, as a comprehensive training program for key personnel kicks off at the esteemed Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo in Kampala.

The nine-day training, which has begun on April 4th, 2024, brings together District Census Officers, Assistant District Census Officers, District IT Officers, and District Technical Officers for a rigorous curriculum aimed at equipping them with the skills necessary for the upcoming census.

The training program is the result of meticulous planning and collaboration between the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Prior to this, selected UBOS staff and MDA representatives underwent a thorough five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) exercise at Statistics House, Tier 1, ensuring that trainers are well-prepared to impart essential knowledge and expertise to participants.

Structured as a four-tier training initiative, the program encompasses training sessions at different levels of administration.

Following the training of district-level personnel at Munyonyo, participants will proceed to train Sub-county supervisors at the district level, and finally, enumerators and Parish supervisors at the grassroots level.

This tiered approach ensures that all personnel involved in the census are adequately trained and prepared for their roles.

With Census Enumeration scheduled to commence on May 10th, 2024, the significance of this training program cannot be overstated.

The slogan “IT MATTERS TO BE COUNTED!” underscores the importance of every individual’s participation in the census, as accurate data is essential for informed decision-making and development planning.

The responsibility of overseeing the training activities within their respective jurisdictions falls on the representatives of the district commission, highlighting the commitment to maintaining the quality and effectiveness of the training process.

The training aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to effectively carry out their duties during the census enumeration process.

As the training unfolds at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo, it symbolizes a crucial step towards a successful Census 2024. With meticulous planning, comprehensive training, and dedicated leadership, UBOS is poised to conduct a census that provides invaluable insights for the future development of Uganda.
