Uganda Beats Nigeria In ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers
Team Uganda have made it five wins from five games after stopping Nigeria this afternoon in the on-going 2013 ICC Africa T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Batting first at the Kyambogo Oval, Uganda put on 169-5 with Roger Mukasa, Arthur Kyobe and Lawrence Ssematimba winning 25, 25 and 49 runs respectively.
In return the West Africans replied with 123-5, leaving Uganda to win by 46 runs. Nigeria’s captain Kunle Adegbola picked a game high 46 runs not out, while Dide Bejide and Ademola Onikoyi had 38 and 24 respectively.
Davis Arinaitwe Karashani, the Uganda captain said they were happy with the win and will have to keep struggling till the last day of the event on Friday. His Nigerian counterpart, Adegbola, said although they had lost they are happy with the way they responded while batting.
On Monday, Uganda beat Botswana by a mere 28 runs after the hosts put on 86-10 and the visitors replied with 58-9.
Uganda’s Coach Martin Suji said although the boys looked tired today, they will keep taking game after game.
The event, which counts towards qualification for next year’s World T20 championships in Bangladesh, continues on Wednesday with Uganda facing Tanzania in the morning, while Botswana takes on Kenya. Tanzania will later play Nigeria in the afternoon, while Kenya faces Botswana.
