URA Computer Hackers Handed 12 year Sentence

Two people have been sentenced to 12years in jail each by the anti-Corruption Court for hacking into Uganda Revenue Authority computer system leading to loss of more than Shs3 billion.
Also sentenced by the same court are, Guster Nsubuga a businessman working with Cargo Supplies Limited and Farouk Mugere, a clearing agent for Shafa Clearing and Forwarding firm Who were sentenced to eight years in jail each for illegally using and intercepting computer services and producing or selling data devices of computer programmes designed to overcome security measures for data protection.
Justice Paul Mugamba said all sentences would run concurrently he also fined each of the convicts $4500.
Mr. Richard Kibalama, an Information and Communication Technology specialist and Mr Patrick Owora, a clearing agent with Shafa Clearing and Forwarding were acquitted of offences in connection with hacking into the URA computerized system by the same court.
