Vote Wisely: Safeguarding NRM’s Future Leadership

As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) prepares for the National Conference and the election of leaders into the Central Executive Committee (CEC), members must exercise the highest level of vigilance and wisdom. The leadership chosen at this critical level will shape the party’s ability to mobilize, influence, and secure the trust of the Ugandan people in future elections. A single wrong choice at the top can have lasting consequences for the party’s strength and its ability to deliver on its promises.

The CEC is not a ceremonial structure; it is the beating heart of the NRM’s political engine. It defines the tone of mobilization, strategy, and policy direction. It is, therefore, crucial that the men and women who rise to these positions possess not just loyalty to the party, but also eloquence, credibility, and the ability to inspire. A leader who cannot articulate the party’s vision, mobilize the grassroots, or defend the NRM’s legacy is a liability. Such leaders risk alienating voters and eroding the party’s stronghold.

Unfortunately, some candidates vying for these positions lack the charisma, intellect, and political depth required to steer NRM through an increasingly competitive political environment. They are unable to persuade or connect with the people, and as the saying goes, “you cannot sell what you cannot believe in yourself.” If such individuals are handed leadership roles, they will not only fail to deliver but could also weaken the NRM’s mobilization machinery, effectively negotiating the party out of power.

To all NRM voters attending the National Conference, the message is clear: take money if it is offered—it is your right—but vote wisely for the future of the movement and the nation. Leadership must never be auctioned to the highest bidder. It must be entrusted to those with a proven track record of service, sacrifice, and the ability to rally millions under the NRM banner.

The stakes have never been higher. Uganda’s political landscape is evolving, and the NRM cannot afford complacency. The party must invest in leaders who can defend its legacy, project its future vision, and communicate effectively with the people. Let every vote cast in the conference be a vote for strength, competence, and continuity.

Vote wisely, for the future of NRM depends on it.
