‘’Today, UN Women Uganda Country representative  Dr.Paulina Chiwangu met with Equity Bank’s Elizabeth Wahito and  Semu Samuel to explore a strategic partnership on women’s economic empowerment from inclusive finance to green lending , unlocking new opportunities for Ugandan women, ’’said officials from UN Women Uganda.

The discussion entailed around partners aligning their objectives to achieve a common goal, such as increasing women’s access to finance, jobs, and resources. UN Women Uganda works with various partners to promote women’s economic empowerment through diverse programs and initiatives.

It should be remembered that throughout March, Equity Bank honoured women nationwide with a series of events designed to empower women in small-scale businesses. Aligned with the International Women’s Day theme, “Invest in Women; Accelerate Progress,” the bank prioritized support for women, particularly in the micro-segment.

According to UBOS statistics, nearly 40% of small and medium-sized enterprises in Uganda are owned by women. These businesses employ millions and support numerous households.

Equity Bank focuses on women’s welfare and economic independence through providing free financial literacy training for both youth and women among other initiatives.

UN Women Uganda, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, is a strategic partner to the Ugandan government in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. They focus on areas like climate change adaptation, access to social and protection services, and fulfilling gender equality and women’s rights.
