2026 Polls : Why Mukono North NRM Contenders are backing former Minister Kibuule

Stakeholders in Mukono North have backed Ronald Kibuule , the former State Minister for Water Resources as sole candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

This follows the withdrawal of his close rival Hajjat Wadindi Zam Namugawe who was eyeing the same parliamentary position.

Namugawe announced her decision to step down  during an NRM restructuring meeting at Nama sub county headquarters in Mukono.

‘’For the past few days  I have been visiting voters and they have been clear about their support for Hon.Kibuule . Therefore I have decided to step down and support him’’, said Namugawe.

Namugawe urged  Kibuule’s rivals to refrain from pressuring her to remain in the race.

On his behalf , Kibuule commended Namugawe for being open and loving the NRM party.

‘’This shows our commitment to NRM reclaiming its territories .With this level sealed , I assure my supporters that we are ready to win the next elections , and will soon start visiting parish by parish ‘’, said Kibuule.

Speaking at the event , the Resident District Commissioner ( RDC) Fatumah Ndisaba Nabitaka , commended the people of Mukono North for streamlining the party’s process in selecting the best candidate for parliamentary race.

Hajji Twahir Ssebagala , the Mukono District NRM chairperson, appealed to aspirants to unite and front a single flag bearer ahead of the 2026 elections to consolidate the party’s support.

Kibuule was the State Minister for Water Resources in the Ugandan Cabinet a position which he held from 1 March 2015, replacing Betty Oyella Bigombe.From 27 May 2011 until 1 March 2015, he served as the State Minister for Youth and Children.

During his tenure in Mukono District and national politics, he has made friends with many Chinese investors who have set up industries, factories  in Mukono District, especially along the Kampala-Jinja Highway which has created a lot of employment opportunities.
