40 Families Stranded as Mulago Evicts Staff

Mulago Hospital
The area lacks running water, electricity and toilets. The families are now seeking permission from the administration of Mulago Doctor’s village to access their toilets as they figure out how to address their plight. When our reporter visited Takabukirwa village early this week, the eviction victims who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being reprimanded by Mulago Hospital management, claimed there were not given alternative accommodation before they were thrown out.
However, Enoch Kusasira, the spokesperson Mulago National Referral hospital says that workers were given ample time to find alternative accommodation to allow the hospital put up new houses. He explains that the staff units that were demolished were built more than 50 years ago. He also says that some of the people who were thrown as not Mulago Hospital workers but were sub renting the unit from their staff.
Kusasira says they investigate and find out if some of the complainants are genuine hospital workers before appropriate action is taken.
