It’s alleged that on Monday, November 11th, 2022 at around 3 am, while on duty at UNHCR stores at the district headquarters Kisoro, the guard saw four men who accessed the fence and cut the tarpaulin which acts as a store to gain entry and steal there from something that forced him to fire at one of them.

Maate says that  Police were alerted by the SGA area supervisor Vian Ngabirano, the scene was visited and examined, and one cartridge was recovered at the scene, a machete, a torch, and a tarpaulin were also recovered at the scene.

The body of the deceased was taken  to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries are underway to establish the real facts behind the shooting under reference number CRB 779/2022.

The storage facility, based at the Kisoro district headquarters is where Nyakabande transit camp managers, Care and Assistance for Forced Migrants (CAFOMI) keep all core relief items meant to support fleeing asylum seekers.
