Enraged Kanungu man chops neighbour into pieces on allegation of bewitching his family

Kanungu: A 30 years old man is on the run in Kanungu over the over alleged murder of a 67 year old man on allegation of bewitching his family.

ASP Elly Maate Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman has idnetifed the suspect  as  Dan Kakyiga a resident of Nyakarambi village in Nyakatoma Parish, Kihanda Sub county Kanungu district over alleged murder of a 67 year old man Stephen Begumisa Stephen of Ibarya village in Nyakibuga Parish also in Kihanda Sub county.

Maate says that the incident took place on Tuesday, 23rd January 2024 in the afternoon when the suspect hacked to death the deceased whom he cut several times on the face and head with deep cut wounds and the right arm was chopped off.

Maate  says  that its claimed that the deceased had been having long standing domestic conflicts with the suspect on allegations of witchcraft that the deceased has been sending to the suspect and his family.

Maate, says that  their issues were once handled at Kanungu Police Station and the two parties reconciled after they were sensitized to live in harmony. The crime scene was  visited and documented by a team of  Homicide detectives and SOCO, who recorded statements from witnesses at the crime scene and body taken to Kanungu Health Centre IV  Mortuary for postmortem examination.

Maate said that the mother to the suspect who was not immediately named has been arrested to help in investigations as the Police continue to hunt for the prime suspect Kakyiga who is still on run.

The case of murder was registered at Kanungu District Central Police Station under reference number CRB 059/2024 to help in the investigations.
