Hassan Wasswa Joins CHAN Squad

Hassan Wasswa has been in and out of the national team due to little club football.

Embattled Kampala City Council’s Hassan Wasswa has been named in Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s provisional squad for CHAN after a battle of words between the local FA and the Lugogo-based outfit who have since vowed pull all the necessary stops, even if it involves officially communicating to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the rebellious footballer.
Wasswa trained with the team on Monday and expects to retain the armband for the Uganda B side that he captained through qualification for CHAN.
Over the last couple of weeks, soccer governing body FUFA have been toying with the idea of considering players Wasswa, Tony Odur and Herman Wasswa for the local-based players’ championship. Odur has also officially start training with the side.
Micho said he wants to remain with a sizeable number (has risen to 27 from 25) that he will work with ahead of the tournament that runs January 11 to February 1 in South Africa.
The Cranes, who will be making their second appearance after playing in the 2011 Edition in Sudan, are in Group B alongside Morocco, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe.
Micho said it is unfortunate they will not have some build-up games ahead of the tournament and yet most of their opponents in the group like Zimbabwe and Morocco have been busy.
“We need to work very hard and get the players very fit and with the best set plays which will give us the chance to make it out of the group,” Micho said.
