Basajjabalaba Sent Back To Luzira Prison
The Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday afternoon sent embattled city businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba back to Luzira Prison after the presiding judge said she needed more time to study the bail application.
Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa refused to grant the suspect bail and remanded him to Luzira till Friday when he reappears at the Court in Kampala.
On Wednesday, Basajjabalaba was initially remanded to Luzira Prison forgery charges after queries were raised on the status of his sureties.
Prosecutors from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) objected to some of Basajja’s sureties that he presented at Buganda Road Court on Tuesday.
Queries emerged specifically on the identification of some sureties’ residence statuses, raising questions whether they were substantive enough to stand surety for the accused in court.
