While addressing media at his home in Kasangati yesterday, Besigye said Pope should pray for pray for justice and peace in Uganda.
“Pope Francis visit to Uganda is God-given and I hope he will recognize that we have never had peaceful transfer of power,” he said, adding, “He has distinguished himself by his humility and his quest to advance causes of peace and dialogue where there is conflict… this critical election is important to pray for justice and peace in this country.”
He said the Pope should use his wisdom to bring together various leaders in Uganda who are not on the same line.
Besigye said he will be suspending campaigns to attend open mass at Namugongo tomorrow.
Independent Presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and President Museveni have also confirmed that they will attend the mass.
Pope Francis who is on his first Africa trip will arrive at Entebbe airport today evening from Kenya.
It is uncertain if Pope Francis will comment on Uganda’s current political situation though he is critical to autocratic leadership.
