Besigye in Panic Mode As 10days Ultimatum to Open Makerere Nears the End

The self-proclaimed people’s President, Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye is worried as government fails to respond to his 10days ultimatum to re-open Makerere University.

Besigye last week threatened to organize a national wide demonstration if government does not open Makerere University which has been closed for close to a month.

Besigye reasoned that the matters of Makerere are of national interest and therefore would organize a national protest to force for its re-opening.

Apparently, six days down the road, the government remains adamant despite daily reminders from Besigye which he posts on his twitter timeline daily as he counts down the 10 days.

On Monday, Besigye posted a sticker on his twitter reading, ‘re-open Makerere now, 4 days to go’ and went ahead to say, “Gear up for SAVE MAKERERE!! No turning back, amidst the gloom covering our country. We go, we go.”

Makerere University was closed at the start of November following unending strike by the academic staff demanding for incentive arrears amounting to Shs28bn.

It is however alleged that Makerere will be opened when the visitation committee that was appointed to probe the university finishes it work which will be done in 3 months time.
