Britain Joins Ireland In Suspending Aid To Uganda

Uganda's now former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi

The British government yesterday joined the Irish government in freezing aid to Uganda after it emerged funds worth 10 million pounds in aid money were transferred to Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s private bank account.

Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland joined hands to give this aid meant to among others reduce poverty and help with the recovery process underway in Northern Uganda as it emerges from over 20 years of war.
This comes five days after the Irish government also suspended aid to the East African nation after auditors told the Irish government their aid money worth 12 million euros had gone missing.
The UK has already set up an independent audit to find out more about the alleged fraud.
Premier Amama has since denied any involvement in the fraud saying ‘I didn’t even know. No money was ever paid to me and I never handle money… As the prime minister I don’t handle money of government at all, ever.’
The Prime Minister’s office has been under the spotlight in the last couple of months after auditors discovered aid money channelled through the premier’s office ended up in the personal accounts of staff.
No wonder! I was wondering why our health centres, roads, schools and poverty still largely remain the same in northern Uganda when donors claimed they had poured billions! Now i know who was being ‘reconstructed’ and ‘reintegrated’! These monies were meant for ‘stabilization’ of your government! And when you tamper with such monies, you are tampering with security of the country!
Mr Mbabazi, you think your utterances are enough to absolve you? Why are you paid if you are not a PM, what is your job?. Who is going to save us???
Dont these men have an inch of fear of the Almighty God on judgement day??? They have cheated His people and gotten away with it but no one will survive His judgement
Hehe!! 10m pounds in a private account and the money was ment to rehabilitate the war striken Northern Uganda? And what the doners have been waiting is to suspend funds? hehe! The doners did not have means to follow up thier money on the ground to see value for money? They should stop using the the name “nothern Uganda funds” in their dirty financial dealings. To the victims, ever since there has not been such moneis, but a mere small favour from the OPM and the donores….. The reason for transfereing these monies to any private accounts for all these yrs and the donors knew these long time ago. The reaction now is just pretence.Hehehe secterianism at work! hah Keep on moving!
I wonder why Amama Mbabazi appears in almost all the financial scandals you can mention in Uganda? Temangalo,CHOGM just to mention but a few.
But why always corruption issues surround Mr Mbabazi. Things happen and Mr Mbabazi’s name is not far!But why?
So Ugandans what should we really do to these people in government?
Prof.Appollo Nsibambi held the same office for years without trashing his name that way.
For all the time he has been in contact with Western Donors I am surprised the PM can even make such comments. Whether he handles money or not, he is fully accountable for all the wrongs his staff do. Gone are the days when you could step away from such situations.
YOU ARE THE CHIEF ACCOUNTING OFFICER, MR PM. WAKE UP! THERE IS A FINANCIAL CRISIS ALL OVER EUROPE THAT IS JUST NOT GOING AWAY.
You think they are interested in stories of incompetence? They want their money, period. Since you know the thieves, you should make them pay, even if they have been sacked!
Well done! these people need to be taught a lesson
Hello my brothers, greetings inna name of Jah the most high, it is amazing that we cannot join hands to build our nation, while other nations grow and the leaders care for their fellow citizens, when it comes to us we are so greedy, jealous, envious, hypo-critic name it. Jah the almighty taught and still teaches us, how to love and care for one another but why do we cause pain to ourselves?
I know most people don’t care about their fellow brothers and this is commonly found in Uganda but i urge you brothers and sisters to unit and love one another, reconcile and have a bright future. Our government will not do much to remove the rotten tomatoes so it should be our duty to rally and campaign for a better government. This is so immoral and being selfish and heartless how can government funds be redirected to someones personal account it really does not make sense no wonder he is buying building in China etc.
Brothers keep living, one day Jah will save us from this bondage. Peace be with you and always remember to give thanks and praise to the most high.
But we keep attacking the Premier, can I say that even the donors are not transparent enough. If you wanted data as a citizen on which money came from which donor, what it went for and the basket (PM’s Office or Treasury)- I doubt if you would get this in any single document. Who from the donors side has been monitoring these monies?
But is Uganda a country or something else ??
Big up to both britain and ireland. A thief will always be a thief how can aid meant to help
those in need go to some ones bank account. CORRUPT, CORRUPT UGANDAN OFFICIALS AS USUAL AND THOSE ARE THE SOCALLED PEOPLE RULING. WHAT A SHAME. UGANDA
NEEDS BOTH A PRESIDENTIAL AND MINISTERIAL RESHUFFLE PERIOD!!!
Good steps to take by the Donor community. Personally I think by them withdrawing their money it will make Ugandans think twice on how to solve their own problems instead of getting free money to benefit a few privileged ones like those working in OPM, BoU, and MoFEP as well as their families, friends and in-laws.
