Buhweju is officially on political fire! Long-time legislator Francis Mwijukye, famously known as MP Weitu, is suddenly sweating for his seat as a bold, fast-rising challenger — Grace Agaba Byarugaba — storms the 2026 race with the confidence of a political hurricane.

Agaba, the young independent candidate shaking up Buhweju, has ignited a wave of excitement and panic in equal measure, vowing to “revamp the broken system” and drag the long-suffering district out of years of poor service delivery.

Her entry has rattled the political cage so hard that insiders whisper that Mwijukye’s camp hasn’t slept peacefully in days.

Agaba campaigns in Nsiika

No Intimidation Will Stop Me!”

Launching her high-energy campaign on 20th November 2025, Agaba rolled through Kashenyi–Akajaani Town Council to Nsiika Town Council in a charged convoy, pulling one of the biggest crowds Buhweju has seen this season.

With supporters chanting her name, she fired shots — political ones — at rivals she accuses of clinging to power while the district sinks deeper into poverty.

“Don’t let anyone mislead you with lies! I won’t be intimidated because I’m a woman. I’m stronger than they think,” Agaba blasted, drawing wild cheers.

She accused incumbent MPs — especially Mwijukye — of frustrating progress because of his opposition (FDC/PFF) politics which oppose good government programs, saying Buhweju’s backwardness is a direct result of “failed leadership.”

Buhweju Has Suffered Enough!

Agaba didn’t mince words about the state of the district: Zero tarmac roads. No district hospital. Dilapidated schools and High poverty levels despite gold deposits.

She promised to drag Buhweju into the national spotlight and restore dignity for residents “who have been forgotten for too long.”

The young aspirant also reminded voters that she is among the key figures who pushed the resolution for Buhweju to attain district status, calling it a milestone she delivered even before joining elective politics.

While contesting as an independent, Agaba openly professes support for President Museveni, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the broader NRM agenda — a move that has left both the ruling party camp and opposition circles scrambling to interpret her strategy.

Political analysts say she could split the NRM vote or even sway it, depending on how the NRM flag bearer fares.

Agaba faces: Francis Mwijukye (Incumbent), Zadock Mutekanga (NRM Flag Bearer) and Phiona Akankwasa (Independent).

But the unexpected surge of Agaba’s popularity has turned Buhweju into a three-way pressure cooker — and Mwijukye, for the first time in years, finds himself defending ground he once considered untouchable.
