Bukanga By-election: M7 Gives Kangwagye Nod As NRM Flag Bearer

Steven Rwakanuuma Kangwagye (L) with president Museveni.

Ugandan President Museveni who is also the Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Sunday evening handed over the Movement Flag to Steven Rwakanuuma Kangwagye, the party’s flag-bearer for Bukanga bye-elections.
The President, thereafter, visited the family of former MP, Hon. Gregory Matovu (RIP) and laid a wreath on his grave before commissioning a 32KV electricity line covering Rakai and Isingiro districts.
Steven Kangwangye will face what many view as his main challenger Nathan Byanyima who is contesting as an independent candidate.
Bad blood between the two candidates started when Nathan Byanyima won the NRM party primaries but Kangwagye accused him of vote rigging.
NRM then organized a re-run which Nathan Byanyima shunned and opted to contest as an independent candidate.
The election will take place tomorrow.
Five candidates are remaining in the race including DP’s Shafique Dembe, FDC’s Tito Turiyo, NRM’s Steven Kangwagye, independent candidates Nathan Byanyima, and Pastor Abel Tumusime .
