BUKEDEA POLLS CHAOS! How MK saved Speaker, Minister Ogwang from arrest
Muhoozi Kainerugaba (L), Anita Among (C) and Peter Ogwang in Bukedea
BY PEPPER INTELLIGENCE UNIT
A deal that saw Speaker of Parliament Nalongo Annet Anita Among host Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba to her home area (Bukedea district) is being revealed for the first time.
Highly placed sources told us that whereas Gen.Muhoozi had planned to visit the Teso region in August to ramp up support for the MK Movement, it initially never crossed him to enlist the Speaker in the mobilization efforts.
He had trusted Minister Peter Ogwang to do the needful.
Something however, happened: President Museveni’s June, 26 directive to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit head, Gen. Henry Isoke to investigate the Bukedea LCV by-election violence.
We are told the directive was unusual and it sent all power brokers in the region panicking starting with the Speaker.
We are told matters were made worse when the area RDC, DISO, and senior police officers were arrested in the days that followed.
Next in the line of arrest was reportedly Speaker Among and Minister Ogwang to aid in the investigations.
Left with no option, we are told Ogwang ran to Gen. Muhoozi through one of MK Movement leaders, Toyota.
A meeting was reportedly initiated and Minister Ogwang confessed all his alleged sins to Gen. Muhoozi.
MK reportedly told Ogwang to continue mobilising for his visit to the Teso region in August and leave the rest to him.
True to his word, Gen. Muhoozi reportedly talked to the President and the rest is history.
“MK negotiated with mzee [President Museveni] not to arrest Ogwang over Bukedea issues because some suspects recorded statements and the minister’s name was mentioned,” a source told us.
ENTER SPEAKER
Another person who was not settled over the probe was Speaker Among.
Sources say, she also thought of an audience with MK through Toyota on the advice of Minister Ogwang.
We are told the directive had made her lose credibility completely in the region and people had started fearing to associate with her fearing what was on the mind of the ever unpredictable President Museveni.
She then pleaded with MK to arrange for her a meeting with President Museveni to explain her case.
In return, the Speaker promised to personally participate in MK’s Teso region visit mobilization efforts but being the Among Ugandans know she had to kill two birds with one stone.
One—to appreciate MK and Toyota for saving her from an imminent Bukedea by-election chaos fallout with the President; two—to prove to the Teso region that she was still in good books with the powers that be.
“The MK visit provided a perfect opportunity to cover up many things in the public court and regain some trust from the masses that she is still in good books with the President,” a source further explained.
According to sources, that’s how she hastily planned a thanks giving ceremony in the area and also used the occasion to parade her new posh hotel-like mansion though it had not been completely finished—interior and exterior.
We are told the Speaker heavily invested in MK’s Teso region visit including personally facilitating all MPs who greeted MK in Teso.
WIDER PICTURE
Reports are rife that Among may not serve as the Speaker beyond 2026.
Sources tell us that apparently NRM honchos are not happy with the current Speaker and some have called her a ‘political accident’ in NRM.
We are told the plan is to politically weaken Among come 2026 and beyond after reports emerged that she too, could be having her eyes on the top seat in the near future. Her wings must be clipped early.
We recently revealed how a splinter group is emerging within the NRM and it is plotting a new party.
Highly placed sources inside the party have confided in this publication that this breakaway group largely consists of NRM honchos from the East.
And in the grand scheme of things, they anticipate this new political party to swallow Teso, Bugisu and Busoga sub regions.
Clandestine plans are underway to make sure it will have gained momentum by 2031.
This move is alive inside NRM by people who feel incumbent President Museveni will be a spent force by 2031.
This splinter group efforts are reportedly led by Among allies and another outspoken NRM male guru who sits on the party’s top organs and also hails from the same region. Another one is an opposition honcho subscribing to NUP and from the Masaka region.
Intelligence gathered shows that they have a huge following among opposition MPs and former opposition MPs who have crossed to NRM.
They also believe it is time for the East to produce a president.
Central (Buganda), North and West have all produced presidents.
In February this year, this splinter group even boycotted President Museveni campaign rally in Serere District and worked so hard to ensure victory for Emmanuel Omoding as the Member of Parliament for Serere County at the expense of NRM flag bearer, Philip Oucor.
Pundits believe the Bukedea LCV by election violence crackdown was a warning shot to Among and Co. DEAR READER, DO YOU HAVE A HOT STORY? CALL/TEXT/WHATSAPP 0777959024 OR EMAIL: redpeppertips@gmail.com WITH AS MUCH EVIDENCE AS POSSIBLE.
