As such, the former number two of this country is these days spending much of his time contacting top influential people who can help him reach Museveni.

Sources stated Museveni has continuously refused to meet Bukenya though no reason is being given.

However, the professor from Busiro north is not about to give up.

We have learnt that on Monday last week, he spent a better part of his day in Kapeeka where he camped until he met Museveni’s young brother Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho better known as Salim Saleh.

Our sources told us that Bukenya on Monday woke up, put on his clothes and drove straight to Kapeeka with the hope of meeting Saleh.

He arrived in a rather disguised manner but the general ensured that his moves are exposed.

Sources stated that Bukenya arrived in Kapeeka at around 12pm.

However, his meeting with Saleh only kicked off three hours later because it was stated that the two met at around 3pm.

“Bukenya was made to sit in the sun for 3hrs. The general couldn’t meet him immediately because he had other issues to attend to. The general said let him wait until 3pm. The move was made to expose him since it seems he never wanted to be seen,” sources told us.

Our sources told us that when the two principals finally met, Bukenya was seen carrying a heavy file. It is not clear what exactly was therein the file. But sources suspected two things:

One was that Bukenya went with his file explaining himself about his plight and why he has been acting the way he has been.

The same sources added that this file could have been the same file containing his dealings with the opposition.

“The file had a list of names and other documents. We suspect it could have been either a business plan, a leaked file or his curriculum vitae. But the way he looked, it was as if he had something important to tell the general,” sources stated.

According to sources, Bukenya allegedly told Gen. Saleh that he has tried hard to meet the president but the man from Rwakitura isn’t positive about his request.

As such, he went to Saleh with a view of securing an appointment with the president.

“He said he has been trying to reach out to the president but nothing was forthcoming. He wants to meet him,” sources stated.

We were informed that there are efforts to return Bukenya to cabinet by appointing him as a minister for agriculture currently in the hands of Tress Bucyanayandi.

With this deal being proposed to him, this might make Bukenya abandon his desire to stand for presidency.

Sources stated that Museveni wants Bukenya to go back to Busiro north and contest for MP seat in 2016.

This therefore explains why he hasn’t officially declared that he is not standing for MP again.

Efforts to speak to Bukenya were futile as he didn’t pick our calls when contacted for a comment on phone.

WHO IS BUKENYA

He is former VP and minister who served in government in different capacities.

Prior to this, he had been working at Makerere University following his return from Pawpaw Guinea.

He was one of the most vocal professors at Makerere who were giving president Museveni sleepless nights.

At that time, president Museveni became furious and needed someone who would help him fish out Bukenya.

He assigned Minister Muruli Mukasa to handle the Bukenya mission.

Muruli did justice to him and eventually brought Bukenya before Museveni.

He was then asked to stand for MP where he was promised a cabinet job.

When he won, Bukenya was appointed a state minster for trade and rose through the ranks until he was appointed vice president where he served for ages.

He was knifed in 2011 and officially prosecuted for allegedly feasting on Chogm cash.

Throughout his predicament in Luzira, Bukenya never attacked Museveni but he kept referring to mafia clique.

Even up to now, he has never attacked Museveni personally but has been on fore front fighting his government by hobnobbing with opposition.

He even decampaigned NRM flag bearers in by-election mainly that of Luweero where NRM flag bearer Rebecca Lukwago was trounced by DP’s Brenda Nabukenya.

Since the sacking of former PM Amama Mbabazi, Bukenya has gone low in his rhetoric against Museveni.

He is known to have had a biff with Mbabazi and his close pals.
