Bukenya On Cloud Nine

Ugandan centre-back Ivan Bukenya has been handed a two year deal at Kaizer Chiefs.

Ugandan defender Ivan Bukenya is a happy man after signing a two year deal with South African side Kaizer Chiefs.

“I have joined a big team that has pedigree and is hungry to win. I thank God that this dream has come true,” the centre-back intimated.

The former Proline FC (Uganda) and Arnbil FC (Iraq) player said he is going to work hard to get a first team place and play a big part to help his new team win silverware in the season.

The 21-year-old has been on trial for almost a month with Kaizer Chiefs, but the club eventually put pen to paper after they were convinced the player is worth the deal.

Bukenya had been playing his football in Iraq up until the end of the 2012/13 season, but left Arbil FC, with who he won the domestic league in 2011/12 and is now was a free agent.

“I will be coming to Uganda soon to pick some papers which will help me process my residence papers and also eventually get the license.

Muji Kasule, a Director at Proline FC that also owns an Academy that spotted Bukenya from Kibuli Secondary School in 2006, said they were happy that the player has got a deal with a top club.

“We are happy for him and this gives us many options when picking the national team,” added Kasule, also the chairman of the technical committee and Vice President in-charge of the League in the Uganda FA.
