Chameleone Bags Kisima Award
Uganda’s music superstar Jose Chameleone real names Joseph Mayanja on Friday night saved himself the blushes of missing out on the BEFFTA award held in London last month by bagging a Kisima Award in the category of ‘East African recognition award’.
In a ceremony held at Kenya International Conference Centre’s ballroom in Nairobi Kenya, Chameleone beat a host of East Africa’s big names especially from Tanzania, the likes of Jay Dee, Professor J and Mr Blue including fellow Ugandan Jackie Chandiru who were nominated alongside him in the category.
This was the 10th edition of the Awards that saw sinzia singer Nameless walk away with the Life Time Achievement Award while Daddy Owen scooped the Artist of the Year accolade with the Ksh 2 million prize money.
Established in 1994 in Kenya to recognize excellence across the board, the Kisima Awards in 2003 took a new turn when the organizers decided to include appreciating music growth.
The event was in 2003 singled out by UNESCO as one of the ignored avenues that could help alleviate poverty in the third world.
This award will come as consolation to Jose Chameleone who at the end of last month lost out on BEFFTA award for best international act, Afrobeats that was won by sexy diva Juliana Kanyomozi.
Congrats, man
